Apr 10, 2018William (Bill) was born on July 29th, 1933, in Detroit, MI. to William and Hazel (Clark) Brown.Bill was a 1951 graduate of Warren High School where he played football, ran track, and met his sweetheart. He married Shirley Lenz on June 27th, 1952 at East Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Detroit. MI. They were married for 65 years.He acquired his B.S and Masters in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University.Bill joined the Michigan State Police in 1956 and retired in 1981. He went on to work for the State of Michigan in social services from 1985 to 1995. In 1961, he was a founding officer of the Troopers Association.Bill was the first Rails to Trails Chairman and worked closely with Huffy Hoffman to secure 137 miles for bike trails in Northern Michigan.He was preceded in death by his sister Betty (Mike) Fisher and his parents, and survived by his sister Bonnie (Terry) Hartley.Bill and Shirley have three children, Clark (Martha) Brown, David (Joanne) Brown, Karen (Bill LaCross) They have 11 grandchildren, Aaron Brown, Jeremiah (Jessica)Brown, Ben Brown, Rebecca Brown, Hannah (Fiance Anthony) Brown, Jonathan Brown, Sarah (David) Bishoff, Rachel (Clyde) Johnson, Stacey (Ryan) Wressell, Chris (Fiance Sheila) Conboy, Craig (Krystal) Conboy. They also have eight great-grandchildren, Radelle, Leona, Henry, Emma, Issac, Lily, Kevin, and Kira.He was an active member of the Lutheran Church for over 77 years. He was the President of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Petoskey for many years, as well being a council member of other congregations that he belonged to.He loved gardening and building churches with the Kingdom Workers, Builders for Christ, which serviced several Wisconsin Lutheran Church’s congregations across the United States.He was a proud Rotarian for over 35 years.Visitation will be at Stone Funeral Home, Petoskey MI, on Sunday January 7th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1825 W.
